In December, 1876, Deputy Charles Faber entered the Olympic Dance Hall in Las Animas, Colorado with two special deputies. Without warning, Faber fired his shotgun at John Allison. John's brother, Clay Allison, immediately pulled his pistol and shot Faber four times, killing him. The deputies fled. For this and many other actions, Clay Allison earned a reputation as a deadly killer, while his circle of friends thought of him as a respectable cattleman.
