On June 5, 1846 Colonel Stephen Kearny sent soldiers to Santa Fe, New Mexico in an effort to take control of New Mexico which was occupied by the Mexican military forces during Mexican-American War.
Colonel Kearny, and his "Army of the West", were successful, as the Mexican forces withdrew from New Mexico rather than fight.
